Anomie

Anomie has been interested in wild mushrooms for 30+ years. She has a Wild Mushroom Food Safety Certification and PA Certified to sell. She is very lucky to have the Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club (a very large and active club) close enough to go to the meetings, walks, forays and classes. She is a season member of Brushwood and has been searching the back woods for years.

Workshop Title: Wild mushrooms “What is it? Can I eat it?” Back by popular demand! Part 1  In part 1 we will start with the basics. How to ID!. The type and shape, gills, tubes or pores and spore prints? Where did you find it? Location and time of the year? What was it growing from? Color and smell, texture and size are all important. Know what to look for to identify what you have found. SAFETY issues. How many books do I need to get started? The internet is a fantastic resource for pictures and information, but there are only a few eatable mushrooms that are “beginner” enough to eat after you have identified them with a picture and someone has confirmed you.  All Welcome

Workshop Title: Wild mushrooms “What is it? Can I eat it?” Back by popular demand! Part 2  More information on eatable and medicinal mushrooms. and the dangerous look-a-likes. Knowing the deadly poison mushrooms to avoid, is VERY important! “family hospitalized due to mushroom poisoning” is not the 15 minutes of fame you want! If the weather has been wet enough I will have some fresh specimens if not we will spend time looking at photos, and dried specimens. One year they will be everywhere, other times, nothing so in a dry year it is impossible to have fresh! Some info on cooking and medicinal qualities will be discussed.   All Welcome
